Service Evaluation of Metrobus Routes 96 and 97, the East Capitol Street-Cardozo Line ((en Español)):

The purpose of this evaluation is to identify the strategic needs for program and facilities; review capacity, productivity, reliability, and quality of service indicators; and recommend changes that will improve service for Metrobus routes 96 and 97. In cooperation with the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT), WMATA is reviewing the East Capitol Street-Cardozo Line to improve service efficiency and coverage. This involves examining the overall performance with the aim of improving service reliability, frequency, crowding, travel time, bus stop amenities, and customer communications.

Quick Facts

The Metrobus Service Evaluation Study for Routes 96 and 97 has three main components:

  1. Reviewing current transit operations and traffic conditions;
  2. Reaching out to stakeholders, transit riders, and members of the public;
  3. Developing recommendations and an implementation strategy.

Where Are We in the Evaluation?

The Metrobus Service Evaluation Study for Routes 96 and 97 began in August 2012 and was completed in January 2013.

The first step in the process was the rider survey, followed by an analysis of existing transit service and traffic conditions in the corridor. The project team then developed a set of preliminary recommendations for improvements, and held a focus group and a public meeting to obtain input from riders about them. The recommendations were refined based on feedback heard from the public, and the final report was completed in January.

The last step in the process is to submit the recommendations to the WMATA Board for approval. Pending the Board's review, some recommendations could be implemented as soon as summer 2013. Other long-term recommendations would be implemented based on availability of funding.

If you missed the rider survey, focus group, and public meeting, but would still like to give your views about possible service changes to Routes 96 and 97, please send an e-mail directly to the project team.
